The big budget Sooryavanshi is expected for release in early April and the decision on release is expected anytime now (Sooryavanshi Release Date Decision Imminent). It looked a 50-50 chance on Friday itself at the time of this report but over the weekend there have been restrictions in more cities which probably does mean that the film may well be postponed.
There was already a night curfew in Pune and now Aurangabad has gone into a night curfew with cinemas to be closed over weeeknd. This could be followed in other cities in the Marathawada belt as well as other cities in Maharashtra. Punjab saw four cities go into night curfews over the weeeknd with Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Karputhala and Nawanshahr all facing restrictions.
It could be that all these places come out of restrictions by April but nobody knows what is going to happen and can the makers really chance this. If it was a 50-50 chance on Friday then the restrictions over the weekend mean there is probably even more chance of a postponement now.
This trend in covid19 trajectory has come at the wrong time for the Hindi film industry as it was looking to get a start from April and a good lineup for the rest of year. The hope will be that these restrictions are limited like some places saw post Diwali and the situation gets better. As for Sooryavanshi it will be pushed towards June and this will alter the release calendar of many films due to release post Eid.
Roohi is due for release on Thursday and although you cant expect too much but hopefully it will see some footfalls where the covid19 situation is more under control.
